Big Ticket: Indian security guard strikes Dh25 million jackpot in UAE
The Sharjah-based expat becomes millionaire while an Emirati IT manager wins BMW
ABU DHABI: A 38-year-old security guard from Kerala, who has lived in Sharjah for nearly two decades, has become an overnight millionaire after winning the Dh25 million grand prize in the Big Ticket Series 271 draw.
Ashik Patinharath, the lucky winner, had been buying tickets for 10 years without success. But he never gave up hope.
“I wasn’t watching the live draw, so when I got the call, I was in complete shock,” he said. “It’s an incredible feeling – after a decade of trying, I finally won the grand prize!”
Dh25 million winner
Ashik, who lives alone in the UAE while his family remains in India, has simple but heartfelt plans for his winnings. His first priority is providing financial security for his loved ones.
Despite his life-changing win, he has no intention of stopping. “I will keep purchasing Big Ticket. My advice to others is: keep trying – your turn will come,” he added.
Emirati wins BMW M440i
The Big Ticket draw also saw an Emirati winner drive away with a BMW M440i.
Mohamed AlZarooni, a 39-year-old IT manager, had only been trying his luck with Big Ticket for five months. When he received the call, he was overjoyed.
“I was so happy when I found out! As for the car, I haven’t decided yet—I might keep it or sell it. But this win has only made me more excited to aim for the grand prize next time,” he said.
Despite his success, Mohamed’s friends remain sceptical about playing. “They think they won’t win, so they don’t buy tickets,” he said. “But I tell them, if you don’t try, you’ll never know!”
Upcoming Big Ticket draws
Big Ticket is set to make another millionaire in February, with a grand prize of Dh20 million up for grabs.
Additionally, customers purchasing tickets stand a chance to win Dh250,000 in weekly e-draws, where two winners will be selected each week.
Big Ticket’s thrilling spin-the-wheel contest is making a return. Customers who purchase two or more cash tickets in one transaction between 1st and 23rd February will have a chance to participate in the live draw on 3rd March.
Four lucky participants, announced on 1st March, will win guaranteed cash prizes ranging from Dh20,000 to Dh150,000.
